Our house is two years old. Do the ducts already need cleaning?
Sometimes, and for a specific reason. New construction leaves drywall dust, sawdust and packaging fines in the system, and those show up at the registers in the first couple of years. The EPA does not recommend duct cleaning on a routine schedule, but it does list ducts with substantial deposits of dust and debris as a reason to clean — recent construction work is exactly that case. An inspection tells us whether it is warranted.
Red clay has been tracked across a light carpet. Can you get it out?
Often much of it, not always all of it. Clay is a fine particulate that works into the backing and can bond to the fiber, so it takes pre-treatment and repeated passes. We will tell you after looking at it whether we expect a full recovery or an improvement, and we would rather set that expectation before we start than after.
